The Thompson Gallery at The Cambridge School of Weston presents “Fuzzy Logic,” the third installation in the series, Contemporary Painting After a Century of Abstract Art. The show runs through Saturday, June 19.

A three-part installation, the yearlong series divides its subject into categories: observation-based, intuition-based, and conception-based abstraction. “Fuzzy Logic,” the final installation, focuses on conception-based abstraction and features a cross-section of 21 artists, who combine non-figurative imagery with rule-based painting practices in their work.

“One thing that seems clear is that while the imagery of 'Fuzzy Logic' is abstract and hard to place, the ideas that governed the creation of the work are palpable and made to be understood logically,” Todd Bartel, director of the Thompson Gallery, writes in the exhibition statement. “Perhaps, that small but important point says a lot about our series and the history of abstraction. Fuzzy Logic is a celebration of a way of painting that is innovative and intellectually stimulating at a time when both artists and critics alike have been skeptical and critical of abstraction as a process in all its various derivations.”

During alumni/ae reunion weekend on June 19, Todd will be giving tours and talks about the exhibit at the Thompson Gallery.
