One Theme, Several Views.
The Thompson Gallery is a teaching gallery at The Cambridge School of Weston dedicated to thematic inquiry, offering differing vantages of the selected topic throughout the school year.
As social justice is integral to the values and mission of the school, the gallery exhibits, coupled with a curriculum that boasts a variety of courses to reflect the diversity of society and the world, and provides imaginative ways to spark discussion.
Named in honor of a school trustee, John Thompson and family, the gallery promotes opportunities to experience contemporary art by local, national, and international artists and periodically showcases the artwork of faculty, staff, and alumni.

About Vulnerability 3/3

Kasem Kydd—Was, Is, An Eclipse confronts viewers with a rumination on the roots white supremacy and its persistent effects on black people(s). Kasem Kydd (Chicago, IL, CSW' 14)) exhibits their assemblages, collages, installation, and video works that address this sensitive and timely topic with directness, irony, and poetic allusion. Was, Is, An Eclipse simultaneously examines self amidst these changing times, while the installation poetically but soberingly calls to memory the history of Colonial slavery. At the heart of their work is a call for the kind of justice that is culturally transformational. -

December 17, 2018 - March 15, 2019Residency: Monday - Tuesday, February 25-26, 2019House + Wife Revisited presents Evelyn Davis-Walker's assemblage installation, which converts the gallery into a 1940s Sears and Roebuck home, replete with period objects that critically explore 1930-1959 advertisement imagery. -

October 30 - December 20, 2017Dreamcatchers is an installation of ten-foot archival digital prints on scroll vellum—layered tracings of scientific notations from the artist’s residency at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, MA.

CSW—a gender-inclusive day and boarding school for grades 9-12—is a national leader in progressive education. We live out our values of inquiry-based learning, student agency, and embracing diverse perspectives in every aspect of our student experience. Young people come to CSW to learn how to learn and then put what they learn into action—essential skills they carry into their futures as doers, makers, innovators, leaders, and exceptional humans who do meaningful work in the world.
