March 30: Heading to Guararé!

Hello readers,

Today we spent our last morning in Panamá City and took the bus to Guararé! After an amazing breakfast by the pool (eggs, oatmeal, toast, and corn patties), we packed our bags, stopped by a store, and set off on our journey. The bus drive was four hours, and we learned from our driver Roger about the Panama Canal, local elections, and the deserts we passed through.

Once we arrived at Hotel la Mejorana, we settled into our rooms and got to know the hotel staff (speaking Spanish, of course). We explored the surrounding areas and met a Colombian singer named Moya who was staying at the hotel with us and playing across the street. Next, we had a tasty dinner at the hotel and prepared to celebrate Semana Santa with the locals. Down the street from our lodging, there was an event with food, drinks, music, and dancing that went on all day and into the night! We joined the party after dinner, learning dances from the locals and trying out our Spanish skills with eager workers and partygoers. The Panamanian people have been extremely welcoming and friendly, making our experience even more incredible.

See you tomorrow,
