Film Scoring

    • A Peek Inside the 'Film Scoring' Class

Film Scoring is one of more than 30 unique music courses offered at The Cambridge School of Weston. Similar to other music courses at CSW, students are encouraged to explore the many facets of music, including, but not limited to, history, performance, theory, scoring, and arranging.

As a part of this course, Film Scoring covers the important techniques of composing music for films. The class is offered to students with a wide range of musical ability and experience. During the Mod, students compose music for specific scenes using digital music software such as Garageband and Finale. In addition to working on compositions individually, students also collaborate to create original pieces of music. Guest artists working in the film industry are also invited to campus throughout the course to share their expertise.

The Film Scoring class is one of Music teacher Gustavo Assis Brasil's favorite courses to teach. Gustavo grew up in Brazil, where his father was a film director - a love for cinema has always been in his blood. Gustavo started playing guitar at the age of 13 and never looked back, attending the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, for studies in classical guitar. In 1999, he received a full scholarship to The Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory, where he received his Master's Degree in Jazz.
