    CSW Boys Basketball Team Wins Gryphon Goblet Tournament

    The CSW Boys' Varsity basketball team faced off against the Newman School on Friday night in the opening game of the Gryphon Goblet. CSW started strong with a three-pointer from Gabe Oxenberg and never looked back. Defense dominated early for both teams, with the Gryphons leading 18-10 at halftime. In the second half, CSW came out firing on all cylinders. Freshmen Nathan Niu and Brenden Fortes anchored the defense, while a balanced scoring effort helped the Gryphons extend their lead to as much as 27 points. Sophomore Sam Kuchler led the team in scoring with 11 points, while Juniors Gabe Oxenberg and Manny Cabana each added 9. By the end of the game, eight different players contributed to the scoring, and the team racked up an impressive 17 steals. The Gryphons secured a decisive 51-34 victory, advancing to the finals against BISB.

  • Gryphons Emerge Victorious at Gryphon Goblet Tournament

    On December 12-14, 2024 CSW proudly hosted the 3rd Annual Gryphon Goblet Basketball Tournament. The event was a success, bringing together four competitive teams: CSW, Commonwealth School, The Newman School, and The British International School of Boston (BISB). The tournament was well attended, with fans and players alike enjoying the spirited competition.

  • Photography Teacher Anne Rearick's Book Featured in Vanity Fair

    Anne Rearick's new book on the Basque country of France was just chosen by Vanity Fair magazine as one of 6 Visual Books for Your Favorite Art Lover. M_Le Monde, a French weekend magazine for Le Monde, published a 10 page spread of Rearick's Basque work. Anne will be presenting her new book Gure Bazterrak at the Gloucester Writer's Center at 7 p.m., December 12.

  • Iris Wolfe '26 Named NEPSAC Junior All-Star

    Congratulations to Iris Wolfe '26, who was selected as a NEPSAC Junior All-Star for the Fall 2024 soccer season. Iris participated in the Class C & D match on Sunday, November 17. A dedicated three-year varsity player and this year’s captain, Iris continues to demonstrate exceptional leadership and skill on the field. Well done, Iris!

  • Model UN Students Attend Conference at Brown University

    The CSW Model UN team recently traveled to Providence, Rhode Island, to participate in a conference hosted by Brown University. While on College Hill, students were tasked with brainstorming solutions to some of our country's — and world's — most pressing issues, including corporate tax evasion, nuclear disarmament, artificial intelligence weaponry, human rights, and global epidemics. Beyond committee sessions, students forged new friendships with delegates from other schools, experienced life on a college campus, and enjoyed Providence's delicious food scene!

    Photography Teacher Anne Rearick has release a new book of photograpy, Gure Bazterrrak (Our Land). Published by the Deadbeat Club Press, the book will begin shipping this winter and will be available during Paris Photo at Polycopies, Porte de Solférino

  • CSW Welcomes Students from Panama

    Last week CSW welcomed 12 students from C.A.D.I. Bilingual Academy in Panama, where our students spent some time during the mod abroad trip to Panama in mod 5 last school year! They were joined by C.A.D.I.'s Director and administrators. During their visit from October 17-21, 2024, they stayed with CSW host families and attended classes with student ambassadors.

  • Mod Break Wilderness Trips are Back!

    Mod break Wilderness Trips are back in action with the first one taking students to the White Mountains! During the 3-day trip, students were split up into two groups based on student preference. The introductory group made its foray into the Kinsman Mountains with History and English teacher/Wilderness Trip Guide Aidan Wang, while the advanced group tackled Mt. Garfield with Science teacher and longtime Wilderness Trip Guide Kevin Smith.

  • Gabriella ’24 Shines in Slam Poetry Competition

    Gabriella Lipstich ’24 recently participated in Write Here, Write Now, Speak Loud, a youth spoken word festival in Boston run by the organization Mass Poetry. She participated in both the individual and team competitions. Her team garnered first place in round one, earning them a spot in the finals with four other teams, and a third place finish overall. On the individual side, Gabrielle performed in the preliminary Boston Regional bout in April, and won, making her one of 15 poets, aged 13 to 19, invited to participate in the Massachusetts finals, which took place on May 5. Deemed one of the top six performers in her bracket, Gabriella will now move on to compete in the Brave New Voices teen poetry slam festival, set to take place in Washington, DC, in July, alongside fellow poets from around the world.

    Each year, the Maverick Lloyd Speaker Series at CSW welcomes pioneering speakers with a strong foundation in social justice activism and civil engagement to CSW, informing and empowering students to actively promote justice in their communities and beyond. The 2024 Maverick Lloyd speakers were Mat dos Santos and Laura Gehrke of Our Children’s Trust, a groundbreaking nonprofit organization that empowers youth to secure their legal rights to a life-sustaining climate.

    Students in CSW’s Sustainability Committee, a group charged with creating and supporting a systematic and ongoing sustainability culture on campus, organized a series of workshops focused around the topics of sustainability and environmental activism.     On Saturday, March 2, 2024, our students in the High School Drama Festival D Block traveled to Wayland High School for the Massachusetts Education Theatre Guild High School Drama Festival. They spent Mods 3 and 4  preparing their submission of "Einstein's Dream" and three students brought home awards! Congratulations to Monty B. '25 and Luke S. '26 for winning an award for Technical Excellence in Prop Design, and Brayden B. '24 for winning an award for his role as Einstein.

    This week, founder and CEO of Beyond Walls Al Wilson joined us for assembly. Beyond Walls is a non-profit that introduces public art, curated experiences and outdoor museums into the fabric of communities by partnering with local community members and experts to design, produce and manage collaborative projects and programs. Lynn, is one of the communities that Beyond Walls brought public art installations to.

  • Winter Wilderness Trip Snow Shoes through the White Mountains

    During the mod break, the CSW Wilderness Trip Program brought two groups to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Both groups started at Lafayette Campground and hiked to the AMC Hut at Lonesome Lake, where they enjoyed breathtaking views of Franconia Ridge and Lonesome Lake, which was completely frozen over.
