CSW Boys Tennis Played Well Against A More Experienced Team
Another beautiful clear sunny but very windy afternoon for tennis at Gann Academy in Waltham, all CSW players except Captain Jared who was sorely missed today.
#1 Singles. Captain and Junior Pharrell lead the team for the first as #1. He had a excellent against an opponent who plays tennis year round. Pharrell won a few games against an opponent who nearly no weaknesses and who was very quick on his feet. Pharrell lost 3-8.
GLOBAL SCORE: 0-1
Singles #2, sophomore Miles played against an equally technical but tactically opponent. A very clever player who makes very good shot decision making, outlasted Miles sometimes in long points. The match is closer than the score suggests.
1-8
GLOBAL SCORE: 0-2
Singles #3 Sophomore Julien played phenomenal tennis today full of confidence on his serves, holding his service games in the beginning of the match. The opponent was Julien's equal in every way except style. The opponent edged out a win that could have gone either way, winning 6-8.
GLOBAL SCORE: 0-3
Doubles #1 Second year with CSW Varisity, junior Tristan and Sophomore Oliver started out cold and trailed 1-5 with easy errors and serves. At mid match the pair got better as regained confidence, mounting a comeback before ending 5-8.
GLOBAL SCORE: 0-4
Doubles #2 Freshmen Ryan and Louis played very well together with good communication and gave an excellent performance. Ryan and Louis' serves were very effective, got several return errors. Ryan's quick hands at the net formed formidable wall while Louis retrieving ball and shots from the back carried long rallies. In the end, the opponents were more experienced in poaching and returning the balls from the deep. They will be a duo to beat in the coming years.
GLOBAL SCORE: 0-5
Overall, CSW individually has improved since the end of last season. With more match experience accumulated has helped to be more consistent in hitting, serving, court positioning, tactical awareness and opponent analysis. As the season continue, we expect to see more players making steep progress.
Next up the Boys will play at home International School of Boston on Tuesday 4/15. More info will come.
