Lise's Lens: January 16, 2025

There’s only a week left in Mod 3 but it’s a week full of exciting events and programming. My calendar is full and I am ready to dive in!

WHAT I’M READING

  • I am reading all about CSW’s summer offerings on our new CSW Summer website, which just launched today! Take a look and help spread the word about some of our exciting new offerings — including a summer day camp for ages 4-14, with full and extended day options. We will also be offering “mini module” math classes, and a Gryphon Theatre Workshop. A lot of work has gone into planning for this summer, and we are so proud and excited to be able to share the details with you today via this exciting web launch. Be sure to follow along with our summer programming on social media @cswsummerprograms.

WHAT I’M THINKING/TALKING ABOUT

  • There is a lot happening at CSW over the next few days! Tomorrow we will welcome visitors from Japan to our community as part of the Kakehashi Project. Then, after a long weekend with MLK Day and the Presidential Inauguration on Monday, we’ll get the school week started on a high note with two performances from our incredible Rock/Pop Ensemble. This year’s concert will pay tribute to Billy Joel and progressive rock (think Kansas and Pink Floyd). On Wednesday, in honor of MLK Day, we will welcome guest speaker Marquis Victor, and then Thursday is the last day of the Mod. But it doesn’t end there! Friday, students from our Black Student Union will host a Black Legacy Gala, and a group of brave students will be departing for the Winter Wilderness Trip. Here we go!

WHAT I'M WATCHING/LISTENING TO

  • I have been following along with developments in the cease-fire hostage deal in the Middle East. While I do not know (and cannot possibly expect to fully understand) the intricacies of such a deal, I am holding out hope that the violence will stop, and that the hostages can finally be released and reunited with their loved ones.

WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE

Yesterday our faculty and staff enjoyed an appreciation raffle sponsored by YOU, our generous parents/and guardians. Here’s a photo of the full team with all of our exciting prizes. Thank you for making this such a special event for us all.

CSW—a gender-inclusive day and boarding school for grades 9-12—is a national leader in progressive education. We live out our values of inquiry-based learning, student agency, and embracing diverse perspectives in every aspect of our student experience. Young people come to CSW to learn how to learn and then put what they learn into action—essential skills they carry into their futures as doers, makers, innovators, leaders, and exceptional humans who do meaningful work in the world.
