Nia Fifield '27 Named Top Defender by Prep Girls Hoops

CSW's Nia Fifield '27 was recently named one of Prep Girls Hoops's 5 Stunning Guard Defenders "who have been outstanding in one way or another, providing the ultimate feeling of security" on the court due to their tough defense.

Although Nia grew up playing basketball at her community centers for fun, she only began taking basketball seriously just four years ago. Since then, she has been training hard and playing AAU basketball outside of school, where she is going into her second year with the Boston Showstoppers.

Nia, who also plays volleyball at CSW, was commended by Prep Girls Hoops for having incredible athleticism and knowing how to take full advantage of it.

"Nia's capacity to recover after being beat is a special trait an elite defender must have. When combining these qualities with her upper-class dexterity, it makes for one of the toughest defensive minded guards in MA." They added, "Although she brings more to the table as a complete player, the certainty she provides on defense is marvelous."

"For me, knowing that people can see that I have been working hard is a compliment," Nia says, "It's a great achievement."

This year, she really stepped up as a leader on and off the court, showing a level of drive and determination that can’t be taught. CSW Girls Varsity Coach Madisyn Gomez says Nia is the type of player every coach wants to have.

Coach Madisyn says, "She’s incredibly coachable, always takes feedback to heart, and consistently applies it during game time. Her defensive skills are a testament to that work ethic — she’s always one step ahead. It’s no surprise that this accolade reflects her tenacious defense; if you’ve seen her play, you know she never lets up, constantly setting the tone for the team." She added "Nia is a complete player, and you can see the effort she puts in every day to continue growing and succeeding."

Congratulations, Nia! We look forward to seeing you finish off this season strong.
